Description Colin 2024-05-14 05:58:37 UTC
Description:
Selecting the Function wizard (fx) and "typing either "if" or "or" fails to produce the customary function wizard response. I didn't validate (m)any of the others but I can confirm that "and", "Vl", "sum", produce the appropriate response.
I appreciate they are simple functions but I was hoping to use the wizard to help me build a complex query and see the "results" as it was progressing.

Steps to Reproduce:
Within any empty cell select [fx] from the address bar
Try to type "if" and observe it just makes the panel "flicker" but doesn't prompt with IF
append "s" to your input and it will produce IFS
[Enter] on ""if"just vacates the wizard
Perform the same test substituting "or" for "if"

Actual Results:
Nothing

Expected Results:
Function Wizard

Reproducible: Always

Unfortunately, Calc's Function Wizard ATM is not smart enough and it lacks several frequently-use shortcuts and keyboard accelerators that are present in other similar tools.

When you type-in some text in the Search field, you have to select the function from the Function list/box that is located under the Search filed. Without selecting a specific function from the resulting list, the FW doesn't know that you already typed-in the full name of the function you want in the Search field, so it doesn't know how to react, or IOW, it doesn’t know which specific function you want to select.

ATM, the FW requires from users to click on specific functions, click on the "next" button and move the wizard forward. Under some specific conditions, pressing some key might get you to what you expect, but it is not the general "rule".

Similarly, the FW does not support typical keyboard shortcuts when you build the formula such as [CTRL]+[HOME] and [CTRL]+[END] (with or without [SHIFT]), simple arrow-keys movements, nor [F4] for changing between relative/absolute references.

In short, use the mouse and specifically select each single step, without assuming what [ENTER] would/should do (nor any other key for that matter).

It's only Tuesday and already I'm having a bad week.
